Hand Strength

The Hand Strength view in the Strategies section groups hands by their made-hand and draw combinations. Instead of analyzing each combo individually, you study entire hand categories to spot consistent GTO patterns and make stronger in-game decisions.

What Hand Strength Measures

FlopHero organizes hands by classic poker hand types such as top pair, two pair, three of a kind, straights, and flushes, as well as draws like flush draws, straight draws, and backdoor draws.

Grouping similar hands makes it easier to study overall GTO behavior across hundreds of combinations.
You can quickly see how the solver treats each category instead of trying to memorize individual hand outputs.

Made Hands vs. Drawing Hands

FlopHero separates hands into two main types:

  • Made Hands – Immediate showdown value such as pairs, two pair, trips, straights, and flushes.
  • Drawing Hands – Hands that must improve, like flush draws, straight draws, gutshots, or backdoors.

Understanding the difference helps you see each group’s role in strategy.
Made hands are often used for value or bluff catching, while drawing hands appear in semi-bluffing or checking ranges.

How FlopHero Groups Hands

Hands are grouped by both current strength and potential.
All top pair combinations appear together, regardless of kicker.
All flush draws are grouped together, whether nut or low.

This structure shows how GTO blends different hand types.
You’ll notice patterns such as top pair betting frequently on dry boards or flush draws mixing between bet and check actions.

Using Hand Strength for Better Analysis

The Hand Strength view helps you understand how GTO adjusts by category.

For example:

  • On dry boards, top pairs are often value-bet.
  • On wet boards, top pairs may check more often to control pot size.

By recognizing these patterns, you develop an instinct for when to bet, check, or fold across similar textures.
You can view the same data in the Range Tab or the Matrix View for alternative perspectives.

Simplifying Your Poker Strategy

Studying by hand category simplifies GTO learning.
Instead of memorizing specific combos like AK or AQ on every board, you learn how to handle broader groups such as “top pair good kicker.”

This approach turns solver data into repeatable concepts you can apply during play, making strategy recall faster and more intuitive.

Practical Ways to Use Hand Strength

  • Find leaks: Identify where you overvalue or undervalue certain hand categories (e.g., betting too many middle pairs).
  • Study by board type: Use Game Configuration to see how each category performs across textures.
  • Reinforce patterns: Look for consistent GTO decisions within each category to build confidence in your play.

The Hand Strength system converts complex hand-by-hand analysis into simple, actionable insights.
Use it to understand solver logic at a deeper level and make smarter, more consistent decisions.
