The Matrix (GTO Replayer)

The Matrix is a core feature inside the GTO Replayer that displays the solver’s complete Game Theory Optimal (GTO) strategy for a given decision point. It visualizes how every hand in a player’s range should be played, helping you understand not just the correct move but the logic behind it.

The Matrix visualizes the solver’s complete GTO strategy for a spot, showing how every hand in a player’s range should be played.

How the Matrix Interface Works

The Matrix is a color-coded grid showing every possible starting hand.
Each cell represents one hand and its GTO-recommended action.

  • Red - Primary GTO action (bet or raise)
  • Green - Secondary GTO action (call)
  • Blue - Tertiary GTO action (fold)

The brightness of each color indicates frequency.
Bright colors mean the solver always takes that action with the hand.
Dim colors mean the action is mixed with others.

For an overview of how hand ranges are structured, see Understanding Poker Hand Ranges.

Finding Your Hand in the Matrix

Your current hand is automatically highlighted in the grid.
This lets you instantly see whether it’s a clear raise, call, or fold according to GTO logic.

You can then review the recommended frequency and compare it to your actual play.
For tips on navigation, see How to Use the GTO Replayer.

What the Matrix Reveals About Range Construction

The Matrix displays the entire range of hands that a balanced GTO strategy would use in that situation.
It shows not only your own hand’s best line but also how all hands connect to form an overall strategy.

By studying the grid, you can:

  • Identify which hands serve as value bets, bluffs, or checks
  • See how GTO distributes hands across actions to maintain balance
  • Understand how frequencies support an unexploitable range

Comparing Your Play to GTO

The Matrix highlights your chosen action within the GTO structure.
If your move diverged from solver logic, it displays:

  • The optimal GTO action
  • How often it should be taken
  • The ΔEV (expected value difference) caused by your deviation

This comparison helps you gauge how far your play strayed from solver-perfect execution.

Using the Matrix to Improve Your Game

The Matrix is one of the most effective tools for building intuition around GTO play. Use it to:

  • Learn GTO ranges by seeing which hands fall into raise, call, or fold groups
  • Understand mixed strategies and how to balance your frequencies
  • Review mistakes by comparing your actual play to GTO recommendations
  • Strengthen intuition through repetition and pattern recognition

The goal isn’t to memorize solver outputs but to understand why each range is built the way it is.
Time spent studying the Matrix helps you internalize optimal reasoning and apply it instinctively in real play.
